This step-by-step guide will walk you through how to move or hide the UserWay widget as you are navigating through a site. You don’t need to sign into the widget to do this.
Users: These instructions are intended for users visiting a site where the UserWay widget has been enabled.
Admin: Please note that all your site users will be able to access this functionality, no credentials required.
Step 1: Go to the site
Open a web browser, such as Chrome or Safari.
Now go to any website where the UserWay widget has been enabled.
Step 2: Go to the widget
Click on the UserWay widget button/icon.
If the button has not been customized, the accessibility icon will look like a circle with a simple graphic of a person.
Click on the widget to open it.
Step 3: Click and drag widget
Scroll up to the top of the widget where it says “Accessibility Menu (CTRL+U)”.
You will see that your arrow cursor changes into a double-ended arrow cursor. ↔
With this special double-arrow cursor visible and activated, click the widget and drag it to move it left or right.
You will see whatever the widget was covering, while still having access to the widget’s accessibility menu.
Step 4: Move or hide widget
In the widget, scroll all the way down, below the accessibility menu icons.
At the bottom, you will see an option to “Move/Hide widget”.
Click to display the options dropdown.
You can move the widget left or right.
You can also drag the widget to adjust its position.
If you prefer to hide the widget:
Select the Hide option, and scroll down to the “Hide for” selections to choose to hide the widget for the current session, one day, one week, one month, or indefinitely.
Where is my widget? I can’t find it.
Don’t worry, the UserWay widget is still available on any site where it’s installed, even if you have hidden it.
If you want to open the widget, type CTRL+U on your keyboard, and the UserWay widget will appear again.
Great accessibility widget, how do I get it on my own site?
As a user, we hope you enjoy our widget and find it useful.
If you have a site of your own, or one you admin, and you’d like to install the UserWay widget there, you can go to UserWay.org and register for either the free or Pro version.
I’ve moved the widget. How long will this position change last?
If you close the widget and open it again shortly thereafter, the widget will open again in the same position you just dragged it to.
This preference will be saved for approximately one day. After that, the widget will return to its default position.
I’ve hidden the widget. How long will my widget stay hidden?
If you selected the Hide option, this will depend on the time frame you have selected: the current session, one day, one week, one month, or indefinitely.
I’ve moved or hidden the widget. Who is affected?
Just you, the end user, on your own computer.
