In this installation guide, we will help you manually install UserWay’s Strikingly Accessibility widget onto your Strikingly website and bring your website closer to compliance with accessibility standards.
Step 1: Register your website with UserWay
First, you’ll need to register your Strikingly website at UserWay.org. At the top right of the webpage, click on “Start Free Trial.”
Follow the steps until you reach the unique code snippet. You will need to copy this code to your clipboard or save it as a text file. Alternatively, you can also find your unique code snippet in the welcome email that we sent to you upon registration. You can also find this code by going to your UserWay dashboard at UserWay.org and selecting the menu at the top right of the page. There, you’ll click “My embed script,” which you can click on to copy the unique code from there.
You don’t need to re-register if you have already registered a previous website with UserWay. You can use the same unique code snippet you used in the past and add your new website to your list.
Step 2: Paste your unique code into your Strikingly website
In the Strikingly Site Designer, click on the “Settings” button on the menu at the top left of the page. On the settings page that opens, click on “Custom Code” on the left-side menu.
When the Custom Code page opens, it will automatically bring you to the “Header Code” tab. Be sure to select the “Footer Code” tab instead. In the Footer Tab, paste your unique code into the text field. Click on the green “Save” button, and you’re all set!
Step 3: Preview your website
On the left menu of your Strikingly Site Designer, above the purple “Publish” button, click on “Preview site” to ensure that your new accessibility widget has been correctly installed.
If it’s working, you have successfully installed UserWay’s Strikingly accessibility widget!
Step 4: Customize your accessibility widget
To access the customization options for your UserWay widget, you can sign into your widget or your dashboard on UserWay.org.
For more extensive accessibility options and better accessibility compliance, consider upgrading to the UserWay Pro Widget to better suit your needs.
What is a Strikingly website?
A Strikingly website is one that is built on the Strikingly platform. This platform enhances websites for viewing across different devices, like desktop computers, tablets, and smartphones.
What can I customize in my UserWay accessibility widget?
Your UserWay widget can be modified to suit the style of your website. You can change the color, icon, and size of the widget with the free version. However, with a paid upgrade, you can remove the UserWay branding and add your own website’s branding to the widget and customize the menu so that certain features appear first. These customization options help the UserWay widget integrate seamlessly into your Strikingly website.
Is my Strikingly website already accessible? Do I need an accessibility widget?
Unfortunately, even if you create your website with a builder like Strikingly, it does not guarantee that it will automatically be accessible. Even though the platform encourages accessible websites, you still need to ensure that yours is compliant. That’s why it’s important that, as a website owner, you implement the right tools to guarantee accessibility for all your visitors.
